A national scientific research institute seeks BWD’s technical and strategic sustainability expertise to help navigate emerging areas of inquiry ahead of key investment decisions. In 2022, for example, we were commissioned to develop a white paper assessing how the rise of nature-positive business models, policies, and investments could grow the market for scientific data, and how the institute could play a role.

The paper focused on the opportunities inherent in natural capital accounting to help value, preserve, and restore coastal ecosystems and marine parks. It delivered practical recommendations that gave the institute a credible basis for internal review of the financial opportunities associated with R&D in this space — and ultimately helped it make the case for additional resources and government funding to protect marine ecosystems.
