Founded in 1817, Westpac is Australia’s first bank and oldest company. After a tumultuous 2020, the bank’s new management was determined to remedy a series of missteps with a new strategy. This involved fixing mistakes, simplifying the business and performing to create long-term value for stakeholders. BWD was honoured to be asked to assist with the transformation.
Following a review of the new strategy and brand, we began the process of structuring, designing, editing and producing the 2020 reporting suite. This included the Annual Report, the Sustainability Performance Report and the Notice of Meeting. BWD also provided input into the new sustainability strategy to 2023 and advised on the bank’s TCFD disclosure.
After a difficult year, our aim was to emphasise the simplicity and accountability of the new strategy. Drawing on our experience, we focused on distilling complex and sometimes sensitive information into a narrative that was open and clear. This was also reflected in the design, where we employed Westpac’s new brand to create strong typography, simple icons and visually appealing infographics to relay a sense that the bank was returning to its roots and strong service culture.
