With humble beginnings, Wesfarmers has grown to be one of Australia’s largest listed companies and is behind some of the nation’s most iconic brands. BWD was commissioned to review two sections of Wesfarmers’ existing disclosure – the climate-related financial reporting in the Annual Report and the Group’s approach to modern slavery. The challenge was to transform these text- and data-heavy sections into strategic, design-led communication.
Following a review of Wesfarmers’ existing disclosure, we combined our expertise in TCFD best practice, modern slavery requirements, and creative data visualisation to assist Wesfarmers in summarising dense content and data into three infographics.
The first infographic tied together the various businesses’ approaches to modern slavery using a combination of text and data visualisation. This allowed the reader to understand the specific approach taken by each business while still seeing the big picture. The second and third infographics delivered a fresh approach to climate-related financial disclosure, crisply summarising the Group’s climate strategy and the businesses’ net zero metrics and targets in a way that would resonate with investors and other key stakeholders.
